Hello! I thought this week I’d talk about something a bit different – painting on iPads. Is it any good? Is it worth downloading painting apps? Read on to discover 5 advantages of digital painting:
- Paint on the go
One of the best things about digital painting is that you can do it wherever and whenever you want. All you have to do is get your iPad out and get to work. Whether you’re on the train, waiting for the bus or just lying on the settee, you can just get your iPad out and continue working on your painting. You don’t have to worry about getting lots of equipment out and putting it away once you’re done; everything’s packed into a handheld device that’s easy to carry and can be used anywhere you want.
- Less equipment, less mess
To create a good painting, you’ll need lots of equipment. To create a digital painting, all you need is a tablet and a stylus. iPad apps have pretty much everything you could possibly need to create the painting you want; if you’re creating a traditional painting, you have to make sure you’ve got all the equipment you need, otherwise a trip to the shops is necessary. Normal painting can get messy and you can spend a lot of time cleaning up after yourself once you’re done, whereas digital painting doesn’t get messy and doesn’t require any cleaning up once you’re done.
- Correct mistakes more easily
When doing traditional paintings, you have to take care not to mistakes. Painting is a skill and it can take a while to build up enough confidence and skill to be able to complete a painting without making mistakes. Many mistakes can be corrected, but this can be time-consuming and not always worth the hassle. With digital paintings, all it takes is a tap of a button to undo a mistake, then you can start again.
- Make different versions
If you want to create a series of traditional paintings, you have to create each one in turn. For digital paintings, you can work to a certain point, then save it. Once you’ve got a saved file, you can then create as many different versions as you want. For example, you could create a summer scene and save it. If you want to make a winter version of that same scene, all you have to do is open up the summer version and make a few changes; you don’t have to start from scratch. You could end up with loads of different variations of the same work by saving it as you progress and making changes here and there.
- Benefits of digital media
A digital painting is a piece of digital media that can be used for loads of different purposes. You can take your saved file and edit it to fit whatever you’re using it. You can use your finished digital painting as your profile picture on your social media sites or on your own website, for example. You can adjust its size and print it out to use it for business cards, postcards and more.
